Modesty is one of the beautiful virtues encouraged in Islam. It teaches a person to be mindful of their words and actions and to treat themselves and others with respect.
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said:
“Modesty brings nothing but good.”
Narrated by Al-Bukhari and Muslim.
Modesty is not weakness or fear of people. Rather, it is an inner quality that encourages a person to choose what pleases Allah and avoid what is inappropriate. It can be seen in the way we speak, treat others, and control our words.
Modesty does not mean remaining silent when truth needs to be spoken, nor does it prevent someone from seeking knowledge or asking questions. A Muslim can be modest while also being courageous, wise, respectful, and confident.
Beautiful character is often shown through simple actions: a kind word, a respectful attitude, a sincere smile, or choosing not to hurt another person.
May we strive to make modesty part of our daily lives and combine it with kindness, honesty, wisdom, and good manners.
O Allah, bless us with good character, pure hearts, and righteous words and deeds. Ameen
